Finding meaningful and sustainable professional opportunities is not only a matter of skills or qualifications. For many adults with motor disabilities, it is also a question of being able to make choices, define aspirations and access pathways that truly reflect who they are and what they want to build.

BeyondWheels is an Erasmus+ project in the field of adult education that responds to this need by supporting adults with motor disabilities in the development of employability, self-employment or entrepreneurship pathways aligned with their personal aspirations and potential. Rather than starting from limitations, the project places people, their experiences and their decision-making capacity at the centre.

Moving beyond assistive approaches

BeyondWheels is grounded in the idea that inclusion should not be reduced to assistance alone. While support measures are essential, they often fail to address the psychological and strategic dimensions involved in professional development.

The project promotes an approach based on autonomy, dignity and active participation, supporting adults with motor disabilities to become protagonists of their own life and professional projects.

An innovative method for adult education

At the core of BeyondWheels is the development of the BeyondWheels Method — a training and coaching approach that integrates psychology, coaching, strategic analysis and project management, adapted to the realities of adult learners with motor disabilities.

The method supports participants in:

  • identifying strengths and development needs,

  • clarifying personal and professional goals,

  • exploring realistic employability or entrepreneurship pathways,

  • building confidence and decision-making capacity.

At the same time, the project includes training for adult educators and trainers, ensuring that the method can be applied and sustained in different contexts.

A European cooperation project

BeyondWheels is implemented by a European consortium that brings together complementary expertise in adult education, inclusion and disability work:

  • CarpoACE Europe (Spain) – coordinator,

  • SOLIS SRLS (Italy),

  • Poraka Nova (North Macedonia).

This cooperation allows the project to combine diverse perspectives and practices while addressing shared challenges related to employability and inclusion.

Looking ahead

Throughout the project, training materials, digital resources and practical tools will be developed and progressively shared. BeyondWheels aims to contribute to a more inclusive understanding of employability, one that recognises personal aspirations, agency and dignity as central elements of professional development. #BeyondWheels #ErasmusPlus #adulteducation
